The Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society meets the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm at the Land O’ Lakes Community Center, 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd./US 41, Land O’ Lakes, 34639, between SR 52 and SR 54. The subject of the Tuesday, January 9, 2018 meeting is “Whoo? Owls!”, presented by Barbara Walker. The biology and natural habitat of owls will be presented by Clearwater Audubon Society’s Wild Raptor Sanctuary volunteer staff. Included in the discussion are ways to help owls survive in the wild, how to identify them by their calls, and how they behave in the wild. The program allows for photo time with the owls (no flash please) and questions from the audience.
Barbara is a board member of Audubon Florida. She was recently honored by National Audubon with the William Dutcher Service Award and is a past recipient of Audubon’s Volunteer of the Year Award. Barbara directs Clearwater Audubon Society’s Wild Raptor Sanctuary at Moccasin Lake Environmental Education Center and promotes Audubon programs including Plants for Birds!
Meetings of the Chapter are free, and all interested parties are invited to attend, to bring questions about their yard, and participate in light refreshments and the native plant drawing. Telephone inquiries are taken by Sandy at (727) 207-1853.
